I've thought about blogging but I've never felt like I had much to say that anyone would be interested in. So I'm just doing it for fun and for myself. If people find it interesting, then great but I'm not going to worry too much about it. This is new to me so until I figure out how everything works, my blog might look pretty boring.
I'm going to share some recipes I've tried and some I've invented. As I mentioned in my "About Me" section, I'm working on being vegan. In certain situations, where I'm not in control of the menu, I can't avoid things like dairy. That's why I refer to it as a work in progress. I'm not going to be preachy about it, so don't worry. I'm just going to do a little documenting of my journey and sharing recipes that I think anyone would like. I've found that I feel so much better on a plant based diet. Also, I never thought much of myself as a cook so now that I'm doing more of it, when I get a good meal out of it, I want to share that success!
I recently decided to try Roller Derby. Talk about random! It's something that's intrigued me for a while, as does speed skating. Now, anyone who knows me, knows I'm not the best skater nor did I spend a lot of time skating as a kid. In fact, I didn't like skating when I was younger because I could never get used to the feeling. I like to challenge myself and this will definitely be one. Not to mention, it's great exercise. We had our first official practice on Sunday and I could absolutely feel it! A lot of squatting is involved. The other funny thing about me doing Roller Derby is that it's a full contact sport and I'm not super aggressive. I'm going to have to channel all the things that tick me off!
I'm the mother to a 3 month old little girl who is my world. So I'm sure I'll be sharing stories and some issues I'm having. Logan is such a character already, I can only imagine what she'll be like when she starts talking and walking! I quit work to be a stay-at-home mom and it's such a rewarding experience. Due to the cut in household income, I've become a coupon using, bargain-loving, thrift shop shopping, sale seeking mad woman! I've kind of always been that way but now even more so. I'll share any good deals I come across, too.
So that's what's up with me right now. My next posts will be a little more focused, I promise!

Hey!!! It's Leah, I found your blog! omg roller derby is the coolest thing ever! I didn't even know they had one in greensboro! I'm from charlotte and am jealous my friends back there get to go all the time.
ReplyDeleteI am so excited for you to post recipes too! I have literally eaten 75% orange foods for the past week. I'm not sure if this is good or bad lol! You know about the never ending squash, but I stocked up on cantelopes too. Also mangos and carrots. When shopping I didn't do this on purpose, but now I'm sick of everything orange.... and I have so much left of everything. ugh! lol!
Glad you found me! I wasn't sure if you could click on my name and it would take you there or not. Guess I should've put a link! See, I'm really new at this! lol!
ReplyDeleteGreensboro has a start-up derby team but I didn't realize it until after I'd joined Eden's start- up. It's an hour drive once a week! Yikes! But I'm having fun so far and everyone's nice.
Orange food kick, huh? lol! You could make smoothies but I guess they would still be orange, too. I love cantelope! You can have too much and that's what happens to me. My husband doesn't like it so if I buy one, it's up to me to eat it! Well, I've been on a bean kick lately. Black beans, kidney beans in chili, stuff like that.
Yay! This is a great idea. As you know, I love cooking too, and I can't wait to try new recipes. It'll be great to share some with you. Since Luke may have food allergies, I have been experimenting with a dairy-free menu this week. Most of the dishes have had meat, but when I run across a yummy vegan dish, I will be happy to share.
ReplyDeleteYou are very brave to try roller derby. I just know I'd spend the majority of the time on my bum.
Right on with the coupon clipping. Money is sooo tight right now. My best so far was saving over $40 at Babies R Us with coupons. I was so proud of myself. Then again, BRU has such a high markup, I probably would have paid about the same just shopping Amazon. Hey, by the way, you can laugh if you want, but I've been getting most of Luke's clothes at Walmart and Target. Walmart has separates for only $3 apiece and I found shirts at Target on clearance for $1.50 last weekend. He's going through them so fast, my new limit is about $5. per item. Did I tell you that he's already in the 6-9 month onesies? He's a long baby!
Hey Michelle! Welcome and please feel free to share recipes and post comments anytime. I love finding new things to try! It's a shame that Luke may have food allergies, though. Hopefully, it won't be too severe.
ReplyDeleteOh, I will spend time on my bum, believe me! lol! I fell last week, not during practice, but during the skate session. I'm gonna need the padded shorts for awhile. :)
Hey, I buy some clothes at Target too, so I definitely won't knock it. She's still got so much she can wear right now, I haven't really bought much new. I'll check out Wal-Mart, though. I also got some stuff at a consignment store. I love going to those places because most of the time, the clothes are almost like new. She's a long baby but it sounds like Luke's got her beat! Baby clothes are sized weird too. She started wearing 3 month clothes at 2 months. BRU is expensive, you do wonder if those coupons they send really make a difference.
